New Contacts

Ever since Natalie was 16 months old, she has worn glasses. At about a year old, I noticed her left eye crossing. I walked up closer to her and walked back and told her to look at me, and it would cross. We took her to the eye doctor, and she walked out with glasses a few days later. We found out she was severely farsighted in the left eye, so much that the brain didn't recognize it anymore. So, it shut down. When we ordered her glasses, they told me that she would see our faces for the first time.
I will never forget that day. I had been working, and Brett had taken her to get her glasses. When she got up from her nap, I went in to get her and put her glasses on. She exclaimed, "oh momma, oh momma!" And patted my face and hair. It was an amazing experience.
She has worn glasses. We have done eye patching. We have covered the glasses' lens. Most recently, we did bifocals for a couple of years. She is back in regular lenses, and the doctor said if she could take the contacts in and out all by herself, then she was ready. She WAS!
Today, she got contacts. Another amazing moment in her life. A moment showing us all that these kiddos are growing up.

Natalie at almost 2 years old. These are her first style of glasses. They wrapped around her ears. We went through a few broken pairs, and I still have a pair saved for memories.
Today...June 2, 2009. Ready to leave elementary school for middle school. 11 years old. We had been in the rain all morning for 5th grade celebration...lots of smiles and fun.
And now. She will lose her glasses tan line. She can comfortably wear sunglasses, hats, headbands, and 3D glasses...oh the list goes on and on. She is cute, isn't she?
Tomorrow is her last day in elementary school, and she will wear contacts. I don't know if she will be able to sleep tonight.
